Dynamo card reader is connected by headphone jack, and iDynamo connects via IPad sync port.

 

Note: These card readers are no longer sold or replaced by Elavon but can be replaced with a different reader if the hardware is determined to be faulty after exhausting all troubleshooting steps.

Troubleshooting Steps 

Symptom 
Cause 
Resolution 
Swipe Error 
Dirty card reader 
Use an alcohol wipe to clean the inside of the card reader. 
 
Bad card 
Attempt to swipe with a new card. 
 
Swipe speed 
Try to swipe the card slower or faster. 
 
Swipe start point 
You must swipe the card all the way through from the start of the magstripe. 
 
Movement shift at swipe 
If you move a card away from the swiper as it goes through, this will cause an error. 
Card reader not working 
Card reader isn’t selected correctly 
  1. Go to the talech Register App > Back Office > General > Card Reader

  1. From the options, ensure that MagTek iDynamo or MagTek uDynamo has a tick next to it. 

iDynamo errors 
iDynamo needs to be reset 
  1. Make sure the iDynamo is securely plugged in 

  1. Remove the iDynamo, Force close talech and plug it back in.

  1. Remove the iDynamo and turn off the iPad. While the iPad is off, reconnect the reader to the charging port and turn the iPad back on. 

  1. Plug the supplied micro USB charger into the iDynamo and verify the iPad is charging when connected. 

uDynamo errors 
Battery issues 
  1. Charge uDynamo via the micro USB slot, found on the side of the iDynamo card reader.  

  1. The light on the reader should be green when fully charged. 

  1. Test the reader with a payment while the reader is connected to the charger.  

Working only when the charger is connected will indicate the uDynamo internal battery has failed. 
 
Microphone settings 
  1. Navigate to the Settings of your iPad. 

  1. Scroll to the talech app on the left of the screen and select it. 

  1. Ensure that Microphone permissions are enabled.  

  1. If error persists, unplug the uDynamo form the iPad. 

  1. Tap the Home button on the iPad twice and close all windows by swiping upward on them. 

  1. Log back into the talech Register app and plug uDynamo in. 

  1. Run test transaction to verify it is working. 

Card reader not working after an iOS update 
iOS settings 
  1. Navigate to the Settings of your iPad. 

  1. Scroll to the talech app on the left of the screen and select it. 

  1. Ensure that Microphone and Local Network permissions are enabled.
