In This Article:

Step 1: Low Charge - Ensure the phone and reader are fully charged.

The most common cause of Bluetooth failure is low battery. Because Bluetooth devices can drain your phone battery, it is important to unpair additional Bluetooth devices and connect your phone and reader to a power source to charge when not in use. The following steps are often all that is needed to reconnect the Link 2500 and begin taking payments:

  1. If either your phone or card reader is not fully charged, plug the device into a power source to charge. Once fully charged, proceed to the next step.
  2. Launch the talech Mobile app and follow the in-app guide to pair the reader. Refer to Link 2500 Set Up with talech Mobile for detailed steps.
  3. Once your reader has been paired, run a test transaction to confirm it is ready to take payments. Refer to How to Run a Test Transaction on talech Mobile for detailed steps.
  4. If you are still unable to process a payment, continue to Step 2.

Step 2: Outdated Software (phone's operating system (OS) requires updates) - Ensure your OS is updated to the most recent version.

If your phone and card reader are fully charged, it is likely that Bluetooth cannot connect due to pending software and security updates on your phone. You will need to update the OS to proceed:

  1. Confirm the phone does not have any pending software updates. If there are pending software updates, update the OS.
Note: Refer to the user guide for your device or your cell phone provider for assistance with your specific phone model.

  1. Launch the talech Mobile app and follow the in-app guide to pair the reader. Refer to Link 2500 Set Up with talech Mobile for detailed steps.
  2. Once your reader has been paired, run a test transaction to confirm it is ready to take payments. Refer to How to Run a Test Transaction on talech Mobile for detailed steps.
  3. If you are still unable to process a payment, continue to Step 3.

Step 3: Bluetooth Interference  - Ensure your Bluetooth connection is enabled.

Important! Your Link 2500 connects through Bluetooth on your mobile phone. However, in order to pair properly, it is best to follow the in-app guide. Do Not power on your Link 2500 card reader until instructed to do so in the pairing guide in the talech Mobile app.
It is likely that the Bluetooth connection between your phone and Link 2500 has been interrupted or terminated, especially if the two devices have been physically separated. Establishing a connection and re-pairing the card reader will resolve most connectivity issues. To reconnect and pair your Link 2500:

  1.   Mobile phone - Disconnect and re-connect your Bluetooth.

    1. Force close ALL applications.
    2. Turn Bluetooth off and wait 10 seconds.
    3. Turn Bluetooth back on.
    4. Disconnect any additional Bluetooth devices. Only one device should be connected to Bluetooth at one time to avoid interruptions and interference while the card reader is connected.
Note: Refer to the user guide for your device or your cell phone provider for assistance with your specific phone model.
    5. Launch the talech Mobile app and follow the in-app guide to pair the reader. Refer to Link 2500 Set Up with talech Mobile for detailed steps.
  1. Link 2500 card reader - Ensure the Link 2500 is in Bluetooth mode.

  1. Launch the talech Mobile app and follow the in-app guide to pair the reader. Refer to Link 2500 Set Up with talech Mobile for detailed steps.
  2. Do not power on the Link 2500 until instructed to do so through the in-app pairing guide.
  3. When you power on your Link 2500, you should see a Bluetooth icon in the top left side of the card reader's screen. If you don't see this, follow the steps outlined in FAQ Issue 1.
  4. Once your reader has been paired, run a test transaction to confirm it is ready to take payments. Refer to How to Run a Test Transaction on talech Mobile for detailed steps.
  5. Please note that once your Link 2500 is paired, it may run firmware updates. Proceed to Step 4 if you are prompted to update your Link 2500.

Step 4: Outdated Firmware (Link 2500) - Ensure the Link 2500 does not require a firmware update.

Important! Once your card reader is paired, the Link 2500 may run a firmware update when you open the talech app and begin to process a transaction. This firmware update can take up to 20 mins to complete.  Terminating this process can damage your firmware and will cause delays in pairing properly.  Do not turn on your Link 2500 until instructed to do so through the talech Mobile in-app pairing guide. If you receive a prompt to update the Link 2500, allow the update to run.
  1. Keep the talech Mobile application running during the update and do not use the phone or the card reader to avoid interrupting the update and damaging the firmware.
  2. The update can take up to 20 minutes to run.
  3. When the update is complete, you’ll see a pairing success screen.
  4. Run a test transaction (How to Run a Test Transaction on talech Mobile) to confirm your Link 2500 is successfully connected and ready to process payments.

Step 5: Wi-Fi Interference - Forget and reconnect your Wi-Fi.

Interference with the Wi-Fi signal can cause your reader to become unpaired. Additionally, the reader and the phone must both be connected to the same network to pair successfully. Click on the link to FAQ Issue 4 for detailed steps.
