If your cash drawer is not clicking or popping open, we have some easy-to-follow troubleshooting steps below to get it resolved for you!

Common issues 

  • The cash drawer is not closed fully, it is jammed, or it could be locked.
  • The cash drawer printer has not been selected as the customer receipt printer in the register app settings. 
  • The cash drawer interface cable may be loose, damaged, or not the correct cable type.
  • The cash drawer cable is positioned in the wrong direction. 
  • The cash drawer printer is out of paper or paper is loaded incorrectly.

Troubleshooting steps 

When the cash drawer should kick, do you hear a click sound?  

If yes

  1. Ensure that the cash drawer isn’t locked.  
  2. Check there are no physical obstacles to the cash drawer opening. 

If no

  1. Verify that the cash drawer printer is using the interface cable that came with it. 
  2. Check for any loose connection between the cash drawer and the printer. 
  3. Ensure the printer cable is fitted correctly with the Printer end connected to the printer and the Drawer end connected to the drawer.
  4. Check the printer for any error lights (such as those indicating the printer out of paper or the paper is loaded incorrectly). 
  5. Check the power on the printer and attempt a test print. If the printer is not working, you will need to start troubleshooting this first. You can find what troubleshooting needs to be done by click Setup under your printer model here.
  6. Go into the app and verify that the cash drawer printer is set up as the customer receipt printer. 
  7. Try using the manual eject latch on the bottom of the drawer to see if it's jammed in any way.
