How to Set Up Gift Cards from talech Register or talech.com

To sell your own store issued gift cards in your store, you must first create a gift card product in your menu. Gift card products can be created from within the talech register or from talech.com. Alternatively, if you no longer wish to sell your own store issued gift cards in your store, there are a few options available.

Setting up Gift Cards on talech.com

Create a gift card product to sell in your store from talech.com.  

Create a gift card category

First, create a category for your gift cards so they are easy to find from the register menu.  

1. Log in to talech.com. 
2. Navigate to Items > Categories.  
3. Select New Category.  

4. Use “Gift Cards” for the Category Name.  
5. Make sure Show Category is in the ON position.  
6. Select Create Category.  

Create a gift card product

With the category created, we can create the gift card product for your register menu.  

1. Navigate to Items > Gift Cards.  
2. Select New Gift Card.  

3. Add the following required information to the gift card product:  
   1. Gift Card Name: The name of the gift card as it will appear in your store. 
   2. Category: Select the Gift category you just created.  
   3. Amount: The amount of the gift card. You can either enter an amount or toggle Enable Variable Amount on to determine the amount of the card when you sell it to a customer. 
4. Select Create Gift Card.  

5. Repeat these steps to create as many different gift card values that you need. For example, if we wanted to create a gift card for amounts $5, $10, and $15, we’d create three separate gift card products for each of those amounts.

Setting up your gift cards on talech Register

You can also set up your gift cards from within the talech Register app.  

Create gift card category

1. Log in to talech register app and navigate to Back Office. 
2. Select Menu. 
3. The best practice is to have a separate category for your gift cards so that anyone navigating your point of sale can find them easily. Select Categories at the top of the screen, then select the + on the top right of the screen. 

4. Name the category Gift Cards.  
5. Select Save.

Create a gift card with a set amount 

If you have specific amounts you’d like to sell gift cards for, create a gift card product for each denomination. For example, if I wanted to sell gift cards in $10, $15 and $25 denominations, I’d create three gift card products for each amount. If you’d rather use a variable amount for the gift card that can be specified at checkout, see the next section Create a gift card with a variable amount.  

1. Select Products at the top of the screen.  
2. Select the + button in the top right.  
3. In the box that pops up, select the second option that says Create Gift Card. 

4. Name your gift card product and then input the amount.  
5. Select Gift Card for the category. This places the button for this gift card product within that category, so you know where to find it.  
6. Change the color of the gift card product (if you want) and select Save.  

Repeat this process as many times as needed to create gift card products with specified values.

Create a gift card with a variable amount

If you want to create a gift card product with a variable amount that can be specified when added to an order, follow these steps.   

1. Select Products at the top of the screen.  
2. Select the + button in the top right.  
3. In the box that pops up, select the second option that says Create Gift Card. 
4. Name your gift card product - “Variable Gift Card” for example.  
5. Leave the Amount blank on iOS Register or at $0 on Android Register. This sets the gift card amount as variable.  
6. Select Gift Card for the category. This places the button for this gift card product within that category, so you know where to find it.  
7. Change the color of the gift card product (if you want) and select Save.  

Once created, the amount of the variable gift card is entered after adding it to an open order.

Removing gift cards from your store

If you don’t want to sell gift cards in your store, you can remove the category and product so that no one can select it in an open order. You can also contact support to have the gift feature disabled for your account. Both options are provided below.  

Remove gift card category and product

1. Log in to talech.com. 
2. Navigate to Items > Categories.  
3. Select your gift card category.  

4. Each gift card product needs to be deleted before you can delete the category.  
   1. Select a gift card product.  
   2. Select the ellipsis in the top right > Delete Product.  

5. Once all the gift card products are deleted, delete the category. Select the ellipsis in the top right > Delete Category.  

This will remove the gift card product from your menu so that no one can select in an open order.
