This guide covers the setup of the Lane 3000, and some tips to prevent common errors you might experience with the device.
The Lane 3000 is a Networked payment device currently available for Elavon Customers Only. The Lane 3000 supports all payment types including EMV Contact, EMV Contactless, Magstripe, and Contactless (e.g., Apple Pay, Android Pay) payment methods.

Before you Begin
Important to know:
- Lane 3000 is used in Ethernet (Network) Mode if connected to an iOS Device.
- Currently, the supported Android devices that it can connect to via the USB Type-A port is the talech Register and the Moby70, 100,120 from the Smart Stand.
- Each iPad must use its own Card Reader if it is intended to take card payments. Lane 3000 can’t be used with multiple iPads.
- If your Lane 3000 is operated in EMV-Enabled Mode, you should also have PIN debit enabled on your Merchant Services account.
Note: The Moby M70, M100, M120 and C150 (single and dual screen) are no longer supported by Elavon due to industry standards and best practices for a secure payment processing environment for your business. Work with your CAM rep to replace your Moby hardware with an alternate device.
Lane 3000 Out of the Box
First, unbox and verify the required components are present:
- Lane 3000
- 1 Power supply
- 1 USB cord
- 1 Ethernet cable
Important: If an ethernet cord is not included in the box, any Cat5, Cat5e, or Cat6 straight-through (NOT crossover) ethernet cable may be used. Likewise, a longer or shorter cable may be used in place of the included cable where needed.
Overview
The Lane 3000 will default to PIN debit for supported cards with the Interlink or Maestro logo on the card when the reader is operated in EMV-Enabled mode.
There are no configurable options that change the workflow programmed in the reader by your processor at this time.

Along with our minimum Network speed requirements, talech recommends installing your Point-of-Sale equipment on its own Network, separate from the rest of your businesses. This is easily and economically accomplished by using a single router, connected in series to your ISP-provided gateway.
This is also recommended as most ISP-provided gateway/routers have been known to have local Network connectivity issues while aftermarket routers don’t usually suffer from this problem.

Initial Configuration
The Lane 3000 should be configured to obtain an IP address on the network which in turn is entered into the talech register so that the application can communicate with the reader. Once the reader is verified to be working, talech recommends setting a static IP address to prevent potential loss of connectivity to the reader if the IP address ever changes (which happens regularly when the reader is configured with DHCP.
Lane 3000 Setup Outline
This section provides a Setup Outline you will follow for Lane 3000.

Before you begin the Setup process ensure the Lane 3000 is connected to the network via an Ethernet cable and turned ON.
Wait for the card reader to be on the Welcome Screen, then continue to the next section How to Configure Ethernet Connection.
Important Note: If the reader shows This Lane Closed right out of the box, please follow the steps in the section This Lane Closed Configuration.
Ethernet Connection
This section is going to provide step-by-step instructions to Configure your Ethernet Connection.

From the Welcome screen, enter 0001 to open the Admin Menu.

Select 1-Communication Type, then select the green button.

Select 2-Ethernet, then select the green button.

Select the red button until the Save and Reboot screen appears.

Select 1-Yes to save and reboot, wait for the device to reboot, and go back to the Welcome screen.
IP Parameters
This section is going to provide step-by-step instructions to Configure your IP Parameters.
- From the Welcome screen, enter 0001 to open the Admin Menu.
- Select 2-Ethernet Parameters, then select the green button.
- Select IP Configuration, then select the green button.
- Select DHCP Activation, then select the green button. Ensure you see On right under DHCP Activation.
- Select the yellow button to go back.
- Select 2-Connection Type, then select the green button.
- Select 1-Server, then select the green button.
- Select the yellow button to go back.
- Select 5-Port, then select the green button.
- Enter 12000 for the Port Number, then select the green button. This will take you back to the previous screen.
- Select the red button repeatedly until the card reader prompts you to Save and Reboot, then select Yes, then select the green button.
Note: The card reader will then reboot. Wait until you see the Welcome screen to continue.
SSL Mode
Upon initialization, the card reader may reboot for the required Commerce SDK update providing the required device files. This may not occur during the bootup process which is normal. Below follow the instructions on How to Enable SSL.
- After following the steps in the section above and when the Welcome screen re-appears, enter 0001 to open the Admin Menu.
- Select 2-Ethernet Parameters, then select the green button.
- Select 6-SSL Mode, then select the green button.
- Select 3-TLS v1.2, then press the green button.
- Press the red button until the card reader prompts you to Save and Reboot. Select 1-Yes, then press the green button.
USB Connection
In this section we will walk through how to configure to USB connection on your Lane 3000 Card Reader.
Important Note: If you are setting this up with the talech Register, make sure you plug the USB into the red USB port on the talech Register. For more information on the talech Register, refer to talech Register Setup.
- From the Welcome screen, press 0001 to open the Admin Menu.
- Select Communication Type then Press the green button.
- Then, Select USB_CDC, and Press the green button.
- Next, press the Red Button repeatedly until the Save and Reboot screen appears.
- Reboot the card reader and test a card payment. If there are any issues, please refer to the troubleshooting guide here Lane 3000 Payment Terminal Troubleshooting.
Important Note: If you are using the card reader with the talech Register, you'll have to perform a one-time update when you perform your first transaction. For more information on the talech Register, refer to talech Register.

Set Static IP on Lane 3000
- From the Welcome screen, enter 0000.
- Use the down arrow key to scroll towards the bottom to see the IP address & copy it down.
- Press the Red Button to get back to the Welcome screen.
- Enter 0001 to open the Admin Menu.
- Select 2-Ethernet Parameters.
- Select 1-IP Configuration.
- With DHCP activation highlighted, press the green button to select it.
- Select 2-Off.
- Scroll down once to highlight the IP address setting, press the green button to select it.
- Enter the IP address you copied down at the beginning of these steps. The # key will be used to add the decimal points. Press the green button.
- Scroll to select Gateway address.
- Enter your Wi-Fi network gateway/router address (found in your iPad’s Wi-fi settings). Use the # key to add decimal points. Press the green button.
Note for getting gateway address: iPad settings > Wi-Fi (left side) > tap blue i on right side of the connected network > scroll to IPV4 section > the number for “Router” will be the gateway address needed to configure the card reader in step 14.
- press the Red Button until you get a prompt to save the changes. Press the green button to save
- Continue to the “talech Register on Lane 3000” section to confirm the talech app has the correct IP address for the card reader.
talech Register on Lane 3000
This section is going to walk you through the talech register on your Lane 3000 Card Reader with an ethernet connection. If you are using the card reader with a USB connection, then these steps are not necessary.
- From the Welcome Screen, press 0000 and wait for the unified payments platform screen to show.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the list using the up and down arrows and write down the IP Address.
- From the Unified Payment Platform ensure the following is correct.
- From talech Registers Dashboard go to Back Office > Settings > Card Readers > Select Lane 3000. Below the list of card readers, 2 new fields will appear:

IP Address of the reader

Port Address for the reader
Configure the reader's IP address and port number to match the IP found during bootup and the port number (12000) selected previously.
- Return to the Register, and attempt to process a credit transaction.
This Lane Closed Configuration
Please follow this setup guide when the terminal displays This lane closed instead of Welcome.

USB with talech Register
- Run a test payment through the Lane 3000. An update occurs on the first transaction. Wait for the update to complete.
- From the sign in screen, select the Log Out button to log completely out of your store account on the talech Register app.

Select LOG OUT on the pop-up box that appears.

Log back in with your Admin credentials (email and password).
Other configuration types
Communication Type
- Press 0001 to enter the admin menu.
- Select option 1 for Communication type, then press the green button.
- Select option 2 for Ethernet, press the green key, then press the red key to go back.
- You will see the option to save and reboot, select option 1 for yes, then press the green button.
- Wait for the device to reboot and return to the screen This lane closed.
Ethernet Parameters
- From the This lane closed screen, press 0001 to enter the admin menu again.
- Select option 2 for Ethernet Parameters.
- Select option 1 for IP configuration.
- Highlight DHCP activation, then press the green button.
- Select option 1 for On, then press the yellow button to return to the previous menu.
- Select 2 for Connection Type.
- Select 1 for server, press the green button, then press the yellow button to return to the previous menu.
- Select 5 for Port, press the yellow button to clear the value, enter the value 12000, then press the green button. This will return you to the previous menu.
- Press the red button for the option to save and reboot. Select 1 for Yes, then wait until the device reboots and returns to the screen This lane closed.
SSL Mode
- Press 0001 for the admin menu.
- Select 2 for Ethernet Parameters.
- Select 6 for SSL Mode.
- Select 1 for none, press the green button, then press the red button to go back.
- You will see the option to save and reboot, select 1 for yes and wait for the device to reboot.
- The device will display this lane closed. Press 0000.
- You can use the up and down arrows to scroll to the bottom of the page to see the IP address and port address. Write these down.
- Press the red button to return to the This lane closed display.
- On the talech register app, navigate to the Back Office > Settings, and select Card Reader.
- Select Lane 300 and you will see three additional fields.

Next to Reader IP, you will enter the IP address. For the port address, you want to enter the value 12000.
- Below the port address, you will see the option for Test payment, scroll further down and you will see the text This Lane Closed on your card reader? Tap here. The option for “Tap here” is in blue text. Press “Tap here” and the update will start.
- Let the device run its course during the update and once it’s completed, the display on the Lane 3000 will say 'Welcome'.
- Press 0001 to return to the admin menu.
- Select 2 for Ethernet Parameters.
- Select 6 for SSL Mode.
- Select 3 for TSL v1.2, press the green button, press the red button to prompt the save and reboot option, then select 1 for Yes. The device will reboot again and return to the welcome screen.
- Start a mock order and start a payment. The Lane 3000 should now connect by asking you to swipe, insert or tap.
