Enable Pre-Authorization to capture the customer’s card information without physically holding the card.

Pre-Authorized transactions will be saved under the Open orders tab in your order list. This also allows you to begin a pre-authorized tab on one station and bring it up later on other stations whether the Validate feature is on or off.

Pre-Authorization Behavior Tips

  • Gateways that do not support pre-Authorization include Creditcall and TriPOS.
  •  If Validate Card is disabled and there is an internet outage, the pre-authorized transaction will only appear on the station that last touched the order.
  • The Validate Card option is not visible and cannot be edited when using an EMV-enabled card reader in EMV mode.
  • Pre-Authorization in EMV-mode cannot attach the customer's name to the order. EMV rules prevent the reader from sending this to the register app directly.
  • If Validate Card is enabled, you are required to enter an amount to pre-authorize. This will hold the funds from the customer and the pre-auth will fall off within a few days (this is dependent on the customer's bank).

Example: If you pre-authorize the customer's card for $20, there will be a $20 hold on the customer's account. If you exceed the authorization amount in talech Register, the pre-auth will be cancelled and you will lose all card information captured. This will require a re-swipe.

Steps

  1. Login as an admin, then navigate to Back Office > Settings > General
  2. Scroll down under the Payment section and tap on Pre-Authorization

3. Tap the toggle on Pre-Authorization to turn it on. You may also toggle on Validate Card

  •  When you turn on Validate Card, this option will check the customer’s card balance for the amount you choose in the Default Pre-Authorization Amount. Turn this on if you want to make sure the customer has a minimum available prior to starting their receipt.
  • The pre-authorized card can only be used when the receipt total is less than the pre-authorized amount.
  • If you do not want to check the customer’s minimum balance, you can tap on the toggle next to Validate Card to turn it off.
